Traditional air-cooling systems can no longer meet the demands of high heat flux density scenarios, and liquid cooling technology is gradually becoming an important development direction for next-generation data centers. As a core device in the liquid cooling system, the CDU (Coolant Distribution Unit) is responsible for heat exchange between the primary-side cold source and the secondary-side servers, as well as circulation. It is often referred to as the "heart" of the data center liquid cooling system.
Within the entire CDU system, the pump is one of the most critical core components, as its performance directly determines the stability and heat dissipation efficiency of the cooling system. By continuously driving the circulation of coolant, the pump rapidly removes the large amount of heat generated by the servers and transfers it to the primary-side cold source system via the heat exchanger. The greater the circulation flow rate per unit time, the stronger the coolant's ability to carry heat, and the more stable the server cooling effect.
To meet the high heat load, long-term continuous operation, and low energy consumption requirements of AI data centers, CDU circulation pumps typically adopt high-efficiency variable-frequency centrifugal pump solutions. These pumps feature high head, high efficiency, low vibration, and low noise, and can automatically adjust flow and pressure based on real-time server loads, enabling precise temperature control and energy-efficient operation. At the same time, to ensure 24-hour continuous and stable operation of the data center, the system usually employs a dual-pump redundancy design. When the primary pump malfunctions, the backup pump can quickly switch in, ensuring uninterrupted operation of the liquid cooling system.
Furthermore, given the high cleanliness and reliability requirements of liquid cooling systems, CDU circulation pumps are typically designed with stainless steel, corrosion-resistant alloys, and low-leakage structures in material selection to adapt to different working conditions such as ethylene glycol coolant or deionized water. In the future, as AI computing power continues to increase, efficient, intelligent, and low-energy liquid cooling circulation pumps will become one of the key devices driving the green development of data centers.
